The Engagement Problem

Hello Hen House readers!

For my new followers... To catch up I've put together my best post here: https://www.homefreehen.com/post/welcome-let-s-catch-you-up

It's been a while. Where do I start? I'm reminded of a bit of advice I was given.

"Don't advertise something that isn't working"

After all my blogging, and making, and sharing, I was getting almost zero engagement. Out of almost 600 followers, my post were getting seen by 8 to 30 people.

Though I want to blame the algorithm (and I have in the past), deep down I knew I had to better. I was determined to find something that worked.

Homesteading finds Series:

This is where I find neat homesteading tips, finds, and advice, and share it with my own branding.

The idea being, if you searched "homesteading finds" you would find a bunch of awesome stuff.

Looking at this post, you can see that 49 people saw it, but only one liked it.

The problem? I think that by adding my own image, the useful information gets pushed down into a little box.

Should I continue without the image attached? Let me know what you think.

Styled Blog Posts:

These were made by AI and showcases how to style your home and fun little tips like that.

Though it's fun to see the AI make a full post for me. It got the least amount of views.

I think people can sniff an AI image in a second. I would rather type my own stuff anyway, even if it does have mistakes.

I do eventually find something that works but before that...

Shameless Ad Time:

This business helps my family of 6. 2 girls, 2 boys, me and my husband.

Fire Starters, Wooden Keychains, and more to come soon.

Thank You!

The Inspiration:

My winning idea came from my past. I used to, for fun, watch beginner streamers on Twitch and make out of context quotes for them. I got so many thanks and followers from it. Here is my old account... https://www.instagram.com/streamer_quotes/

Eventually I had to put it on the shelf to make some money. That's when I started a business, and my time had to be spend elsewhere.

The Implementation:

I used what I learned. People work hard on their accounts, businesses, and homesteads. They deserve praise just like those twitch streamers did. That's when I got the idea!

Homesteader Highlights! Just look at that engagement.

I never liked the 'Follow for Follow' emptiness that is all over social media. Following just for the number to go up doesn't help anyone. Just a bunch of accounts with lots of followers that don't engage.

With this series I can give someone the praise they deserve, while I get seen by all of their community. Which is the key word here. I don't want followers, I want community. A place where homesteaders can come together to help each other.

A Big Thank You!

2.1K views may not be much to some but it's the world to me! Thank you to Peggi and her amazing community who not only visited the highlight but did the extra step of looking at my site.

This has given me a new glow. I feel invigorated and ready to get back to work.
