NEW BURLAP PACKAGING AND NEW POP-UP LOCATION

Updated: Sep 6

Hello Hen House readers!

It's a new month and I've been busy. Not, flashy I've got something to show you busy. More, tying up loose ends background busy.

Social Media

I've been concentrating on my X account and I'm up to 576 followers. Yes, I know I'm still a baby, but that's a lot for me.

That same following just hasn't been as easy on the other social platforms like Instagram or TikTok.

The end goal is getting people to this blog, so if you're here. Thank You!

Why is this blog the goal? 2 main reasons:

  • This is the best way to get to know me. The blog gets readers invested in my journey and maybe, buy something I make.

  • Readers using the link below when they do an Amazon order give me a little kick. It really helps keep this blog going.

Digital Work

Amazon didn't work out. Many of you have seen the struggles. I had an error on my product I just couldn't fix. Amazons help page didn't help. I even downloaded their 'product sheet' and tried to re-upload my items. Nothing worked.

So...

Products are now available on my website! That's right, now you can finally order some keychain charms for yourself, right here.

New products will be available when I figure out how to ship them. Next up, the fire starters. They are relatively small and should be easy to ship.

Speaking of products, lets update that list from the last post.

Product Progress

  • Soap Holder - Shawn Ashe, who is the head of the CNC shop at Lowell Makes, is helping me with the shapes I need to properly glue the kerf bent wood. No update from him yet, I didn't want to bother him during Labor Day weekend.

  • Enclosed Shelf - Still on the shelf for now.

  • Dynamic Designs - Magnets are not strong enough so I ordered some new longer ones. I need them to be strong enough to pull through the wood.

  • Fire Starters - Lots of experimenting. I still like the formula, it was time to make them in bulk.

Measurements and Burn Time

I learned a lot when I made a full order. How to keep each fire starter relatively the same mainly. And the burn time variation between the smallest and biggest ones.

There is no way to get them exactly the same. When I pour out the mixture I measure each, one at at time. It takes a while and I end up pouring a topper of wax so all that time measuring gets waisted.

After all of that, I get some at .7oz and some at 1oz. Most end up at .9oz.

Difference in burn time varies from 18 to 20 minutes. Husband suggested putting 16-20 minutes burn time on the packaging to give me a buffer.

Honestly, when making a fire, a few minutes won't matter. It burns for plenty of time to get a fire started.

Packaging

I found these cute Burlap and Organza bags! I love them:

This one holds 3 and cost $12. More bags are coming in the mail that will hold 6 and will cost $21.

These bags click all the boxes!

  • Rustic Looking

  • Show Product

  • Easily add tags to them

  • Can be hung for product displays

  • Super Freaking Cute!

Business Stuff

Bit of backstory: Mill #5 was a huge shopping center with lots of shops. It shut down last year.

Now the shops are building a new place called Hive Public Market. It will be located in the heart of downtown Lowell. Here is their website:

Red Antler Apothecary (the same one whose farm I volunteer at, and same Apothecary that lived at Mill #5) asked me to put in for the weekend market at Hive.

These are the connections I've been working on!

Now I have a deadline. I need to finish the soap holder and I need to add finishing touches to my fire starters, namely tags with product name, my logo, and safety information.
