Just rolling with it...

Hello Hen House readers!
Last post I hinted at a surprise visit somewhere and boy oh boy is it a doosy!
One day I was scrolling on Instagram. It was a busy day so I only saw maybe 5 quick post. Among those post was a call for volunteers for a farm.
I jumped at the chance. I want to learn so much about homesteading and living the independent life. A farm is of course perfect and just the learning experience I've been looking for.
But wait...
It gets better!
This isn't just any farm. It's Red Antler Apothecary's farm!
Red Antler Apothecary is a huge store that sells all natural cosmetics and tea and soap. So many things that would pair well with my homesteading and country vibe I'm going for.
They work with local makers, hosting products in their store.
I've visited with them many times while shopping at Mill Number 5.
Note - Mill Number 5 shut down unexpectedly and now the all the shops are looking for a new location.
Here is there website: https://www.redantlerapothecary.com/
But Wait...
It Gets Better!
On the farm is a wood mill! Legit, trees into lumber Wood Mill!
Lots of logs and boards just sitting there, calling my name! Ok, wait wohh, not like that!
My point is, if I'm a good volunteer and I get in good graces. Maybe I can buy some off cuts, or even lumber, without the middle man.
But Wait...
IT GETS BETTER!
The worker said I can come back and help out with Flower Share! It's the first time they are doing it and if I help, I can have free flowers! (Too many exclamation points this post I know)
This is great, not just because of the flowers but because it gives me a steady presence at the farm. I helps with that good graces I was talking about.
BUT WAIT...
IT GETS BETTER!
She said my daughter can come help! This is such a great opportunity for her. She can grow and learn and get contacts of her own. Added plus, there is now cell service out there.
I've been looking for a farm for her to work at for a long time. It's not lost on me how lucky I am. Thank the universe and God for this opportunity!
Reminder Events have changed. My engagement with the Lowell Folk Festival may be less of a "table to sell" and more of an "information booth". We will know soon as the coordinator will tell us within two weeks.
I've added an event!
Christ Church United Yard Sale on June 21st from 8-1.
I MIGHT be selling at Lowell Folk Festival. fingers crossed!
I WILL be selling at Christ Church United.

The farm, is wonderfully huge. like I mentioned above, they make tea and grow flowers and lots of other things. The first appointment was postponed because of rain so I went on Monday.
This meant we had to move some things around but my wonderful, supportive husband made it work.
I arrived to find that I was the only person to show up. Only one other person offered to volunteer, and she canceled on the first appointment.
We pulled weeds, and laid down cardboard and mulch. Cardboard ran out fast which gave me an idea I'll expand on in the next post.

While pulling weeds I felt a prick, like a thorn but I saw no thorns. So I did what any sane person would do, I touched it again.
Turns out it was a "Stinging Nettle". Here is a picture of it.

Next post, For the first time, so much happened I'll need to break this post into two! I'll fill you in on the rest of my week, including a new project I'm working on.
Thanks for reading! Don't forget to join the Hen House mailing list...
